The State of KDE Language Bindings
KDE User and Administrator Conference
KDE Developers and Users Conference 2005
Speakers: Richard Dale
Language: English
Check the Schedule for an overview of all talks during this conference.
The talk will explain how the ruby, java or python bindings are generated using either the kalyptus or SIP tools and compare the approaches. It will explain how the 'Smoke' library works, and the plans for a second version of Smoke for Qt4. Several other factors are important for a binding to succeed; a community of users, a development environment such as KDevelop or Eric3, and good tutorials and documentation. I'll demonstrate using KDevelop with ruby as a complete RAD environment. The talk will end with a discussion about how people can help to build a better community of bindings developers and users, and ideas for what could be done in the future.
